I'm so tired of being obese ~ yet I've been so unmotivated to change my patterns.

I'm out for summer break and I'm going to attempt another effort.

I'm at work right now - closing up my classroom (actually reconnecting with this forum  )

When I get home, I'm going to look through my Atkins & South Beach material(s) and make a decision as to how I'm going to choose to eat.

During the summers, I have so much more control & the weather is a wonderful motivator. ~ I just need to get off my fat ass and do it.

For those who remember "Curly" the kids are doing well after the divorce. I can elaborate more in another forum.

I think that "I'M BACK"

Hi, Curly -- glad to see you again.

Oprah had a show on weight loss earlier this week. At one point, she was talking about the difference between "trying to lose weight" and "deciding to lose weight." I think that is a very important distinction. Losing weight, of course is dependent on what and how much you eat, but it is also very much a head game. So, have you DECIDED to lose weight?

You know ~ "I don't know"

I'm so decisive about so many other areas with my life.

I'm just sick of being fat, sick of my clothes not fitting, sick of feeling visually repulsive . . .

I will wrestle with that distinction & try to figure where I really am.

My doctor wanted me to see a weight loss doctor in town to have him run a health evaluation on me & see what weight loss options that he suggests ~ maybe that should be my first step?

Can't hurt.

My sister has been doing a weight loss program in conjunction with the hospital here and has been doing real well. She calls it the "diet police". I know some wouldn't respond to that kind of thing, but she has been doing very well with the discipline.

I hope you can find something that works well for you, motivates you, and helps you DECIDE to lose weight.

I have taught students to drive for the past 18 years. This is the last summer for the program (through the school district vs. the private sector).

I have one more full week of driving & class instruction before I get my one month off (before going back to teaching high school).

I haven't done anything drastic with my weight. I am just trying to watch my portion control.

Maybe gastric bypass is the answer. I'm not saying you can't lose weight with just dieting, but the longer your body carries around the weight, the worse it is for you. My best friend had it done. Insurance paid for it and I think she just paid $100 total. She did it around Thanksgiving and has already lost 98 lbs! She can only eat a few bites and she is full. Just something to kick around. :D

Hi Curly,

Just a thought but have you read Dr. Atkins 1972 book Diet Revolution. It is pure, its simple. Its the original plan before all the manufactured lowcarb foods came out. It is not only inspirational but at least I can see where I was off track.

Regarding the gastric bypass and lap band surgeries really do your research before considering one of these procedures. Guess what eating plan you end up eating? Low carb. The people that start sneaking in foods that are forbidden or finding a way to eat the same old junk are going to end up gaining it back. Probably wont happen the first year but it happens.

Try setting ten pound goal weights. For every 10 pounds you lose your health improves.

Good luck

Hi Curly,
I had dinner with some other dieting friends last night. One of my friends had the gastric bypass surgery and has lost an amazing amount of weight. He eats only small portions of low carb food and never eats deserts.

My other friend went to the doctor and he put her on a protien diet. She has a protien drink in the morning with a fruit, a protien drink for lunch with a vegetable and for dinner she can have grilled meat and two vegetables and another protien drink for a snack. She loses about 2 to 3 1/2 pounds a week.

I decided to lose my weight finally and I am following the meat and egg fast with an occasional salad or two. I am losing better than the last time I tried this, but I think I am more determined.

I think once you get started on what ever plan you decide is best for you, it gets easier as time goes by and you feel better every day because you are doing something positive for yourself.

The first day is the hardest for me, but when those first 10 pounds are lost, it is the most wonderful feeling in the world. Way better than any candy bar could ever taste.

Come on back. We miss you.

Hi Curly,

I'm glad to see you posting again. I am kinda in the same boat as you are. How you described yourself is how I feel.

For me fighting in my mind what plan to follow is driving me crazy. I know I need to take that first step again & just do it. No more excuses. I know easier said than done but we did it before we can do it again.

This time around I have health issues that is playing with my choices. Evenutally I will be back on some sort of low carb plan.

I wish you the best of luck & I know you can do it. You have the "want to do it" in you. Just like I know I do.

Big {{hugs}}
Marlene
