:x I know Nutrisystem is not low carb. I tried it and hate it. The food is terrible. The bars are hard as a rock. The soy chips taste like cardboard. The chicken and beef patties are a joke. I starved! The approximate calories a day consumed was 1,000. Don't waste your money.

I tried it a few years ago and I wasn't impressed. At 1,000 calories a day, anyone can lose weight. I think they make the food on the commercials look better than it is too. Also, the model they use, Amanda, I've seen her in other weight loss adds using other diets!

My sister did this program and lost a lot. She was so thin in such a short time. I don't think I could do it.

1000 calories a day...a good recipe for disaster in the long term. You're teaching your body how to conserve fat and that energy will be at a premium so it will cling to reserves for dear life.

There's no "number" of correct calories for everyone. For a 25 YO active male you may lose a pound a week on 3200 calories a day. For a sedentary 45 YO woman you may need only 1400-1500.

Without exercise it's a minefield. If you can't let yourself put in about 1500+ calories daily I'd bet against the weight staying off long term.

Haven't learned much in 50 years, but I'd stand by that theory.

I started nutrisystem last week and have already lost 7lbs...it's amazing how much i didn't know about portion control and how you can do this way of eating without having to cook and preplan every day...it's way to simple!

Some of y'all may remember me. I was a die hard Atkins fan for several years and an active member of this board. I lost maybe 10 pounds on Atkins and could not lose any more, and then I gained and lost the same 5 pounds for more than a year. I finaly decided to try Nutrisystem for 5 weeks and I lost the 15 pounds I wanted to lose. I am no longer on it, but I have kept the weight off with no trouble at all for a year or more. I liked the food and the convenience. I now eat at probably maintenance levels of Atkins, but the Nutrisystem really got my weight loss moving after a long, long stall. Don't get me wrong, I still completely agree that a low carb lifestyle is a healthy lifestyl, but sometimes you just need to shake things up to get things moving, and Nutrisystem did it for me.

Good to hear from you, CeeCee!

Of course, there isn't one diet plan that is good for everyone. If this worked for you, I'm all for it!

I tried LA Weight Loss and did not like it b/c I am a picky eater and felt I had little variety as to what I could eat. I don't like very many types of veggies and I was supposed to eat 3 a day so it was a little hard. Besides that I have a sick son who is in and out of the hospital so trying to eat healthy on the go was hard. Also it is hard to keep up with any exercise regimen I try to start b/c we are always at the hospital and when we do get home I am too tired to do anything! I was just wondering if you all recommend Nutrisystem or not; I am trying to lose about 30 lbs. Thanks for any experience you can share!

I've never tried it but:

I suppose it does teach you portion control. But I have a feeling you are always hungry with it. That is something that people on Atkins don't have to worry about.
