Anyone ever hear about this. I have a friend that is doing it right now.

Dr. Poon's Metabolic Diet

It is low carb, but low fat (not interested in that too much lol)...and not alot of eggs.

But there are some things that it has, that maybe some might want to incorporate into Atkins.

Like...

Sugar free gum / candy / chocolate ..Limit to 5 grams of sugar alcohols (which rules out most chocolates I imagine), and you can have 1 serving every 5 hours.

Limit cream intake to 1 tsp cream (10 or 18 %) per coffee
(now if u drink 2 pots of coffee a day, will it matter lmao)

Dressings and BBQ dressings limit to 1 tablespoon

So for people that are stalling due to sugar alcohols but dont like to give them up, maybe limiting the amount every 5 hours might work.

it also has listed, Black wood ear and Winter Melon (whatever those are)

It might be an interesting "google" for others doing Atkins, and at a point where calorie counting is needed.

It's interesting how more and more diets these days are centered around low carbing in one form or another. I remember being treated like I was going to ruin my health and die when I started this in 2004.

LOL there are many things low fat one can eat. Like meats, cheese, even cream cheese can be bought low fat.

I always have both in the house. As my boys..they get the low fat stuff. If they are gonna eat sugar out the wazoo no fat for them.

I have found if you say Low carb, then everyone is happy, if you say Atkins then there is shrieks of horror, wonder why?

Jim
"also has listed, Black wood ear and Winter Melon (whatever those are)"
Black wood ear is a fungus (well, a dried mushroom sounds better). It has a slippery texture and a bit of a crunch once rehydrated. Similar to "cloud ears," but somewhat larger.
They are used in many Chinese dishes here in America. I have an interesting recipe using them and eggplant in a spicy Szechuan dish. OWL friendly I expect.
Winter melon is...a melon. Also Chinese and while I've never had it, I suspect it might be something like watermelon? I've seen them (well, in book illustrations) carved elaborately and used as containers, especially for winter melon soup.

Interesting. I saw lots of what I thought was watermelon in China and I thought that was strange. I didn't eat any of it, though. Maybe it wasn't watermelon.

I'm familiar with the blackwood ear fungus Jane, used to have that a lot in Hong Kong and Singapore, I've also had wintermelon soup there, I quite enjoyed it.

Sorry Jim, I am having trouble with this new format...hard to tell where one post begins and another ends. I guess it was Noxema who asked what wood ears were. So, is winter melon something like cucumber? Somehow I think the soup might have too many carbs for me... I suppose it requires something carby ( like cornstarch) to thicken it with, wouldn't it? Or do they use cream or chicken broth?
This was always the problem with low calorie/ low fat diets for me. I remember one that allowed me unlimited amounts of "vegetable A" -- all the cucumber and parsley I wanted. Now, I like both of them, but a heaping serving of three cups of parsley just doesn't sound all that appealing. Tabouli sure, but that requires a considerable amount of oil (forbidden on that particular diet). And if you add the bulghar, it is no longer Atkins friendly either.
